Look for the silver lining – we will come out of this stronger!

She Can Tri hopes everyone is healthy and well during these uncertain times, and taking steps not only to protect themselves, but others who may be more vulnerable.

This virus has certainly caused anxiety across the globe. It does not discriminate.

With that, we have decided to delay our major fundraising campaigns as well as racing efforts to 2021, and while you may not hear from us for a while, know we are busy working behind the scenes.

She Can Tri's Zeinab and Zahra with She Can Tri founder Jackie Faye at the Buddhas of Bamyan during their October training camp.

Over the past few weeks we have been reflecting on our journey. Many of you who have been following our story may recall it was our goal to get an Afghan woman to the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship – that remains unchanged, but what will change is our path moving forward.

We have learned a lot this year. What does and what does not work. And while we are all eager to return to normal, at She Can Tri, we want to do even better. We will return with stronger vision and intention.

If you’d like to smile today, here’s a recap from our journey training Afghanistan’s first triathletes, from our first time in the pool to the moment we made history.

With that, I want to be transparent and honest. I want to be genuine about our struggles with our investors, sponsors, partners, and with individuals who believe in us. The way She Can Tri was operating was not working. Yes, we were able to accomplish the mission, but it was built on an unsustainable foundation. I am solely responsible for this, and I am working to correct it.

I don’t live paycheck to paycheck in my personal life, and I can’t run an organization that way. Training women in a conflict zone is stressful enough. I can’t also constantly worry about paying our bills. But! The silver lining - I have been busy developing a plan to make us money and enable us to empower more women in conflict zones. I hope once this all passes you’ll be ready to hear about it.

With that, no matter what you are training for, the prize may come at a later date, but don’t lose sight of it, and use this time to refocus going forward.

In the meantime, we have partnered up with Dare 2 Tri and Combat Flip Flops. If you are able to shop while you are social distancing, both companies have agreed to give She Can Tri a portion of sales. Just remember to enter shecantri as the promo code before you check out.

If you use the code to make a purchase, Dare 2 Tri has also agreed to give a free buff you can use to cover your face in public. Combat Flip Flops is also giving away their book, Steps Ascending: Rise of the Unarmed Forces, for free.

Stay well friends!

She Can Tri is empowering women on and off the playing field, reaching those that are the greatest in need and hold the most potential for positive change. The finish line for our athletes is not just about proving something to themselves. They are proving to their countries that women can accomplish amazing things when they put their mind to it, and they are changing attitudes about what role women should play in society.
